Keep Cool & Save this Summer
Energy costs are one of the most expensive items in a home budget, after the mortgage and taxes. Particularly during hot summer months, energy bills tend to spike because many of us are running our air conditioners to combat the heat.
This summer, keep cool while keeping more of your money in your wallet! Stay cool for less by following these 3 steps, brought to you by your Saskatoon air conditioning experts:
Step 1: Invest in Energy Star Cooling System Products
The Energy Star is a rating given to products that have been independently tested to ensure energy efficiency without sacrificing form or function. Basically, the use of Energy Star products can help you decrease energy use and consumption in your home. Many new homes come equipped with an Energy Star heating and cooling system, while window air conditioning units are also available with the Energy Star designation. Pay a little more up-front for an efficient system and save on energy expenses in the long-term.
Step 2: Control In-Home Temperature
If you do not have a programmable thermostat, you should seriously consider investing in one. Once you’ve determined the temperature you find most comfortable, set your thermostat so that your system automatically cools to that temperature. Next, increase the temperature by several degrees for the times of day when you’re out of the house – generally, during the work day.
If you have a programmable thermostat, you are able to enter these times and your cooling system will adjust the temperature automatically. For those with a traditional thermostat, you will have to make the temperature adjustments manually.
Step 3: Perform Air Conditioning Maintenance
Prior to the start of the warm weather season, perform an air conditioning maintenance check of your entire cooling system or window air conditioning units. Examine the cooling system to make sure it is operating properly. Replace all air filters every three months and make sure the air ducts are clear of dust or debris.
