In our latest article, we discuss how getting a second opinion on your furnace problem could save you thousands of dollars.
At Gibbon Heating & Air Conditioning, we receive multiple calls from customers asking us to provide a second opinion on your furnace problem. A couple hundred dollar fix does not warrant buying a brand new furnace, causing high stress situations and leaving you without heat in some cases. We found there are two common issues our team comes across when giving a second opinion on your furnace problem which are a faulty gas valve and a cracked heat exchanger.
Note: If your furnace is displaying a red tag notice please contact us immediately. A red tag notice means the furnace is shut down and can not operate until repaired or replaced for various reasons. If a warning is displayed it is safe to operate in the short-term but will require attention.
Faulty Gas Valve
If your furnace is not working (and a red tag notice is not displayed), the gas valve may have been accidentally shut off or bumped if there was work done around the furnace. Once you check that the gas valve is in the right position and the furnace continues to not start up again, the problem may be a faulty gas valve. Recently a customer called us for a second opinion on their furnace problem as they were told they needed a new furnace which was over thousands of dollars to replace. After we did our assessment, it was in reality the gas valve that needed replacing and was under $600 to fix.
Cracked Heat Exchanger
If you feel comfortable to do so, it is a good idea to trouble-shoot your furnace with our tips provided. A heat exchanger on your furnace has to be checked by one of our trained professionals and it can be repaired if it is cracked. Again customers are told that they need to buy a new furnace to fix this problem and are not given the proper recommendation based on the issue at hand.
